BOTOX® Cosmetic in Toronto
As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, leaving wrinkles, laugh lines, smile lines, crow's feet and facial creases.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin to relax the muscles in the areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, mouth and neck.
Some of the common areas treated with BOTOX® include the frown lines between the eyes, forehead wrinkles, crow's feet around the lateral eyes, upper lip wrinkles and neck wrinkles and bands. It can also be used to give a subtle brow lift and give a pleasing upward turn to the sides of the mouth.
A BOTOX® treatment is an office procedure that is quick, requires no anesthesia or sedation and is quite painless. The results typically take a few days to a week to start and last three to four months.
the BOTOX Procedure
Using a very fine needle (the smallest that is currently produced), BOTOX® is injected directly into the facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic and is virtually painless. Most anatomic locations require between 3 and 5 injection sites in order to properly treat the muscle. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last three to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer.
Risks of BOTOX
Injection site side effects of BOTOX® are usually mild and temporary (and most commonly consist only of a small bit of redness at the injection site). Other rare complications include, but are not limited to infections, a temporary headache, bruising, asymmetries, and the possibility of a droopy eyelid. Normal activities may be resumed immediately after receiving injections.
